Worship

Worship is at the center of our life together as a church.  The Westminster Shorter Catechism states that the chief end of humankind is, “to love God and enjoy Him forever.”  At First Presbyterian, our worship seeks to both glorify God and celebrate the blessing of community and creation that surround us.

Our regular Sunday worship service takes place in the Nave at 10AM.  On holidays and during festival seasons (such as Advent and Lent), the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is celebrated each week. During the rest of the year, the Lord’s Supper is celebrated on each first and third Sunday.  First Presbyterian practices “open” communion.  All who put their faith in Jesus Christ, regardless of church affiliation, are welcome to the table.

Special worship services are held throughout the year including a Christmas Eve candlelight service,  Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday tenebrae and Easter Sunrise service.

Acolytes
Children serve in worship as acolytes.  The acolytes process during the opening hymn and light the candles on the communion table.  The role of the acolyte is a centuries old tradition in the church.  At First Presbyterian, acolyting is an opportunity for our children to take a leadership role in worship.
